Introductions and Welcoming

  • All attendees were asked to give their name and the agency they represent.

Review of October 25, 2006 Meeting Minutes

  • There was a motion by Lisa Boccabella to approve the minutes from the October 25, 2006 meeting. It was seconded by Linda Duca.

Past Events

  • CEED Breast Cancer Screening – October 30, 2006

A variety of table type events occurred in October.  The CEED Breast Cancer Screening was well attended with almost 30 women receiving a breast cancer screening at Shore Memorial Hospital Cancer Center.  The women also received breast education and follow up care.

  • Lung Cancer Walk on Ventnor Boardwalk – November 18, 2006

Every Breath Counts:  Walk for Lung Cancer Awareness was an Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) event the coalition participated in.  It was well attended and produced a donation to Lungeveity and the South Jersey Cancer Fund.  Over 10,000 dollars was raised in the honor of lung cancer awareness.

  • Resource Roundup – December 16, 2006

The coalition joined with Annie Valerio and the Foundations of Faith Health to put together a booklet of one page service information into a binder for her graduating congregation classes.  Organizations also attended to explain and answer questions regarding their services.  Annie wants to have two class sessions per year and would like to repeat this effort.  If you have not included a one page description you can still do that.  Contact Angela for more information.

Future Events

  • Palliative Care Committee
    • This committee is starting to educate the public regarding palliative care.  “Aging with Dignity in Today’s Healthcare System” (March 7, 2007) at the Fairways in Galloway was setup by Christa Sawyer.  They are presenting to the community during a usual meeting.
    • Some committee members are also participating in the End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) Conference in March 2007 by presenting a poster.
    • A two day seminar in May 2007 will also be held for the professional as a joint effort between the coalition and the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
    • The committee is almost complete with their survey and are on the final phase.  They will present at the next coalition meeting.
  • Colorectal and Clinical Trials Lectures – March 2007

There will be a lecture on colorectal cancer and a lecture on clinical trials in March at Shore Memorial Hospital Cancer Center.  Some speakers are being approached, but if any members have some recommendations that would certainly be welcome.  Look for more information to be forthcoming.

  • Breast Cancer Committee – Breast Event – May 19, 2007

The breast cancer committee is making progress on our upcoming event.  Marketing materials should be given out to all coalition members shortly.  Please distribute and help in anyway you can to get the word out.  The goal is to get 200 women to come to the event.

  • Prostate Cancer Committee – Prostate Event – June 2, 2007

The prostate event is also building momentum.  Marketing materials also will be completed and distributed soon.  Please hand out, display, whatever you can do to get the information out.  It is also our goal to get 200+ men to this event.  Also if you have any sports celebrity contacts please help us in this area, as we were hoping to get someone to attend.  This event also still needs a name so any ideas would be welcomed.

Future Projects

  • Melanoma Project

Angela Bailey reached out to Linda Duca to put together a melanoma education package for the schools.  She is going to create a curriculum to go with the “Dark Side of the Sun” DVD we received.  An evaluation will be included and the information will go out shortly.

  • Youth Educator’s Badge

This project began in Gloucester County and is a statewide initiative.  It is a badge that can be earned after completing a variety of educational pieces.  It is open to all types of youth organizations.  The project will formally be presented to the coalition coordinators at the next meeting.  Angela will know more then.  Currently the coalition is looking for a project leader for the project.  Any interested members or ideas for a person or group to head the project off would be appreciated.

  • Poster Project

Angela Bailey currently produces articles for the website each month.  Generally the information is based on the “Awareness Topic” of the month.  She is then going to take that information and create a poster that can be displayed in the hospital.  This information will be forwarded to coalition members in which they may feel free to also make posters for their organization should they desire.  A logo will be included and a place for the organizations logo will also be included.  More information is to come.

  • ACHLC Brochures

A formal brochure needs to be drafted for the coalition.  Any member that would like to be part of that process should contact Angela Bailey and their comments are welcomed.

Brainstorming Activity

  • Professional/Community Education Committee
